Chloetaylor its too late for this lovely dog he has been slaughtered already.
Chloetaylor
Such a beautiful dog, if no one comes forward.. can fly not put him up for adoption? I'm happily take him and give him a happy home and life! No dog deserves to be treated this way and certainly deserves the chance for another life!
BigGSDPatlucky
There is a dog law specialist I have been in touch with
They are helping a lady that had her dog taken by the police on January 20th
The dog was not a Pitbull type
However they sent it for re homing
How can they get things so wrong
The same team have had loads of complaints about Jake/OLI
So think they are checking this out to.
We cannot have a law that allows police to take dogs then not give them back.

Poor little dog - such a sweet face. Run free in the sunlight now, angel. No one can hurt you now.
DogLostLottie @ Muddy Paws-Area volunteer North London.
Very upsetting to hear this news. He looked lovely.

Disgusted by these laws but even more so by the breeders who know all too well that their own puppies could be PTS for simply existing in this country.
Run free at the Rainbow bridge- there are no laws to hurt you there xx

It seems the Metropolitan please are the worse (only by what I have read)

I woke this morning to read the following I will do all I can to stop this

Quote
When I was living in North London (2012 - 2016) I had a neighbour who had a beautiful blue American Pit-bull cross, his house was raided by mistake (wrong address) and they found hope (dogs name) inside & took her saying she was a banned dangerous breed.

It took a week before my neighbour could approach the kennels where they said hope was being held only to find out she had been put down the day after the raid.

Two neighbours witnessed the police repeatedly beating & kicking Hope whilst dragging her out of the house on a handlers noose!"

I am full of tears and sick in my stomach at the lack of compassion shown by the authorities who, to my mind, had this outcome planned for this poor dog all along. Kind words and apologies from the PC who relayed the information are simply that ... they`ve done their bit according to their rules and now they won`t give this dog another thought. Their own dogs ( or "tools of the trade " as the police consider them ) are dispensable, why would they care about a stray dog even if he has done nothing wrong. Jake was unlucky in life in being owned at some point by someone who cared NOTHING for him when the ultimate questions were asked, who did not come forward and do the right thing by explaining Jakes history and breeding, and poor Jake was unfortunate to look like a "TYPE" of dog who would be a danger to the human race. Yeah, some danger. I`d like to know how many people found him dangerous whilst he was imprisoned for being born. I am so, so desperately sad for how people with "authority" in this country are turning people against dogs who are born innocent and over thousands of years have shown themselves to be the most loyal companions to the human race. God help us all and God help all dogs, it can happen to any of them in this sad day and age. Shame on those responsible. I can`t say anymore. God bless your soul, Jake.
Unknown
He didn't have a name when I called him Jake so Jake or Oil.

Rest in Peace

Thank you all for helping me
I know you moved a mountain
My time on earth was not to be
And the clock just kept on counting

I hear other dogs are like me too
And their plight is just the same
We cannot help the way we look
And we are not to blame

I must have been here for a reason
Though the reason I do not know
I was just a little Hillingdon boy
Lost, with nowhere to go...

When all your tears are shed for me
Please try to save my friends
Angels are with us upon this earth
They are here to make amends

I know you won't give up on us
For you always try your best
Remember my face and my will to live
Now is my time to rest...

Thank you from my gentle heart
For all you did for me
I will sleep in peace forever more
And hope my friends are one day free.

And where is the irresponsible breeder? Why does the law allow all these puppies to be produced when so many end up this way, or worse? Big Money, presumably.
Molliemoo
I've been sharing this poor boys plight since Carla Lane's Animals in Need first shared it. Like many I am absolutely devastated and have emailed a number of MP's asking for a chance in the BSL. RIP beautiful baby. No more pain or unkindness for you.

So So sorry....Run Free beautiful boy....You were let down by a stupid law......x
Kit'sMum
Terribly sorry. BSL sucks and is completely unnecessary. The police should be better trained and have better things to do. RIP, Jake, you were a lovely boy who never put a paw wrong ... xxx
Unknown
NickyB I was thinking that too. I also think the owner signed Jakes` death warrant.
NickyB
incidentally has the owner been found who abandoned this dog - no microchip, no id tag on collar and not going to either claim him or hand him over ......... where are you? it is you who signed his death warrant
NickyB
the police yet again have shown they are not fit to make the decision on these dogs. the 5 dogs running free in Bolton last week - 3 had been taken off owner recently and in their wisdom police decided they werent dangerous - and last year a man was killed protecting his little dog from a dog the police had previously taken off him and returned saying it wasnt dangerous............ I wish someone in power would STOP POLICE being able to make these life or death decisions. they are incapable
Hope #endbsl
Run free over the bridge now so sorry we couldn't save you I would have fought for you tooth and nail.

I'm bereft but also disgusted the terrible UK system has let this beautiful dog down and killed him. The police should hang their heads in shame. The law in the UK is non existent when it comes to animal welfare and this poor dog has been killed because of it. Animal welfare in the UK is shocking which is why the government has let it get our of control. RIP little one. There are many people that would have been your voice...bless you darling XXXXXX

I feel more upset this morning than I did last night poor innocent dog.
This country allowed them in and now they put them to death at a drop of a hat.
They can be the best tempered dog going
Yet if they look a certain way they are killed yes killed
There is someone on face book fighting for the law to be changed
Please go to the page and support or spread the word it has to stop

Just copied this update from face book RIP you lovely boy

Very Important!!! Hillingdon Boy update...
Sadly he has gone guys frown emoticon:(

I have just rec'd a call from a really luvly lady PC Gibson from Hayes Police Station. We spoke earlier today in an attempt to ascertain whether Hillingdon Boy cd be the same dog seized as suspected banned breed from the homeless gentleman who sadly passed away back on 5/3/16 at Uxbridge Police Station. That dog was said to have been released to a friend. When PC Gibson called me back, she advised me that the dog belonging to the gentleman was NOT the same dog as Hillingdon Boy. PC Gibson had obtained verification of this from the Status Dog Unit direct. The SDU state that the gentleman's dog had bn chipped before being released and therefore this cdnt be same dog. Obviously, chips can fail, migrate and therefore not be picked up wen a dog is scanned and in some cases can even fall out, so we wd like to get a visual description of the gentleman's dog or at least a written guarantee from the SDU that more than the chip was taken into account to see if these dogs were one in the same. In one post a lady has posted a Westie cross Cairn Terrier claiming to be that gentleman's dog...this seems very confusing, as I am unsure why that wd be seized as a banned breed...but then again, so many dogs clearly not of type are seized, nothing wd surprise me!

In that same conversation tho, came the news that Hillingdon Boy HAS been killed by the Met Police. PC Gibson sadly confirmed that thy told her he was no longer alive. I am saddened and quite frankly disgusted that in spite of our Solicitor's having been liaising with the SDU all wkend, they have failed to relay that information to the Solicitor's...surely that wd be common courtesy based on the fact they are more than fully aware how many people are desperately trying to save this poor boy. Another innocent life taken by ludicrous legislation that does NOTHING to protect society from bad owners and irresponsible humans. Pls contact your local MPs and join the campaign to end BSL to make lives like the little Hillingdon Boy matter and make a difference....so sorry..and thank you to each and every person and group that has helped in this search... especially to Jess Lamb from Parry's Solicitor's for all the time she has spent sending emails and speaking to me over the wkend...the Anti BSL community are truly amazing dedicated people...pls stay tuned for Olive's High Court case on 28/4/17 and hope that perhaps then common sense and justice may prevail for typed strays xxx

Patlucky - I couldn't agree more. I know we only have a photo but her whole demeanour and well cared for appearance doesn't add up. Someone else commented on her having an apologetic expression which I also agree with. Army of people out in area today.

Was he found close to the canal? Might be worth asking some boat owners. On Benbow way bridge there is a boat owner who had some bull type breeds who might know of this dog. And I think after the bridge there is a dog kennels of some kind who might know?
ClaireC
I do apologise I was wrong on the blood test.
ClaireC
Latest update on determining breed.

Hi Claire

The way of determining "type" is based mainly on physical conformation and whether the dog in question reaches a pre-determined standard. A blood test would not be able to do that. If you need anything further then our website and Facebook page includes information. Alternately you can e mail us on ddawatch@gmail.com or message the Facebook page.

I don't appear to be able to post on the page link, not sure why.

Kind regards

Sian

Amie

Don't live in the area but have emailed my local animal rescue who I understand have in the past taken on a prohibited breed under special licence. Don't know if they can help at all but worth a try. Did stress URGENT. Will be such a damn shame if this dog is pts. Don't do Facebook but wondering how dog was seized? Was it a stray or seized from owner perhaps?
Unknown
One person with a tape measure is all it takes to determine the fate of a dog.
BigGSDPatlucky
If you had a wide face Staffie that was bred with a long leg dog IE a boxer that could be deemed a Pitbull
Could it not ?
Unknown
No chance of foster unfortunately once a dog has been typed. If owner comes forward they can hopefully take through the courts.
NickyB
owners of dogs that look like this dog or anything that resembles the pitbull etc MUST IMMEDIATELY GET THEIR DOGS CHIPPED/MAKE SURE CHIP DETAILS ARE CORRECT/GET ID TAG. If owners have not abandoned their dog ( there are an awful lot of staffies on the doglost lost page and very very very few on the reunited page) the poor dog faces death row
Amie
I may be able to offer a foster if the owner hasn't been found
Katie
I don't see how this dog can be put to sleep just because he could be a pitbull. There's isn't any confirmation he is a pitbull. Poor boy. I hope he's reunited with his owner soon if not maybe he could go to a home that will love him like he needs. I'd take him straight away but I know it ain't that simple!!
SimonH
There is no blood test that confirms breed. A littler of puppies could have some pups that are typed and others that aren't - purely a lottery. As an aside there are English pounds that (I'm told) have managed to get dogs that may otherwise be typed up to rescues in Scotland as Scotland don't follow BSL like the rest of the UK. I may or may not have moved a few. I'm not a DLO so couldn't say for sure.
Unknown

Words fail me. Hope there will be a positive result here. Paws xd. Because of a few irresponsible owners, other dog owners have to suffer/
ClaireC
I have emailed my contact who is with DDA to clarify inj re breed if in existence! I thought there was! It may be too late to get this info but may be relevant for future ones!
twoDs
DNA tests aren't used - it is entirely on type - measurements etc the breed except for the 4 banned is irrelevant.I'm sure there were litter siblings a while back, one was declared type the other not - go figure.
ClaireC
Mandyj there is a blood test out now that can determine if there is a pit bull mix! Whether a Council is prepared to pay to have it done is down to them! I don't rate this dogs chances if any dog resembling in their opinion that's it's a pit bull if held by SDK! Last edited: 2017-04-08 10:42:24 by ClaireC

Can anyone local please can posters go up. Might be too late we don't know but one last chance would help
Mandyj
For those suggesting or querying DNA breed identification options - DNA can't be used to type a dog, our crazy DDA bases type only on appearance, actual breed is irrelevant in this legislation. A dogs future is determined entirely by 1 person and a tape measure.Last edited: 2017-04-07 23:43:20 by Mandyj

Think they are closed and we wont hear until Monday
I hope they did not put him down cos he LOOKS like a Pitbull
As many don't think he is
With NO DNA nobody can say for sure
Unknown
Still no news.
BigGSDPatlucky
Well damn well time they did
Just to say one way or another
So they get a Staffie cross type dog and say its a Pitbull
The dogs life is in their hands
How bad is that
Hollieberry
IMO its based on what the dog warden says when the dog is picked up .I saw a documentary & as a result of watching that I believe they do not do Dna testing in this country .
BigGSDPatlucky
So a Staffie can look like a Pitbull

Do they do DNA or just guess?
No one can be sure without a DNA
Doglover
Latest Update 1 hour ago...........................We have had many enquiries this afternoon about why the Hillingdon Dog cannot go to a rescue or be adopted by someone else. Unfortunately the dog is said to be a prohibited dog and therefore the police believe he can only be returned to his owner. Without an owner we cannot challenge type.

This issue has arisen in another case which we are challenging in the High Court however there are some differences as the local authority who had seized that dog had indicated our client could adopt her before she was discovered to be type.

Several people have come forward claiming to be the dogs owner. They have been put in touch with the police who will carefully assess their claims.

We must make it plain that however upsetting this case is anyone falsely claiming to be the owner of the dog are likely to be the subject of a police investigation and may suffer prosecution. We cannot condone such behaviour.

If we have any further updates over the weekend we will publish them here.

Our office is closing until Monday morning.
Hollieberry
I think it means that this dog will be pts today but another similar looking dog with another police force will be allowed to live. For gods sake this poor dog is a staffie all because of a stupid law .
BigGSDPatlucky
Doglover does this mean the dog is still alive?

Update: From Lawyer
THE HILLINGDON DOG
Although we believed we had found the owner of the Hillingdon Dog we now know that the person we traced was the owner of a very similarly marked dog who strayed and is with another police force. That dog in that case is thought to be a prohibited dog but is going to be taken through the exemption process and will not be put to sleep. He is to be returned under the interim scheme - so good news there.

The bad news is that this means we have not been able to trace the owner of the Hillingdon dog and we have been told that "it is likely that the dog will be put to sleep by the end of the day".

We are grateful to everyone for their efforts in trying to trace the owner of the dog in this case. Much as we would like to achieve a successful outcome in every case that is not always possible, but without your help and engagement we would be unsuccessful in many more cases.

If anything changes we will post a further update here.
LindaT
Oh my goodness, I do hope this poor dog has not been PTS at the last minute! Update....

URGENT URGENT URGENT!!!!!!!!! WE NOW HAVE JUST UNTIL 4PM TODAY TO FIND THE OWNER OF THE LITTLE HILLINGDON BOY OR HE DIES!!!! THE MET POLICE HAVE CONTACTED PARRY'S TO ADVISE THEY WONT KEEP HIM UNTIL 20/4/17!!!!

I have asked Parry's if we were to agree to pay his kennel fee's until Olive's court date on 28/4/17 to await the High Court decision, wd the Police agree to keep him alive pending that outcome...if we do win Olive's case, then we cd potentially take this little boy thru the same process, James Parry is going to try to reason with them but as per the current legislation, they are within their rights to kill him :(
Hollieberry
Poor dog he has no chance if no one is going to stand up for him its such a shame.

Thanks GillyP for clarifying. I hope this lad has not already been PTS and there is a chance for him to get re-assessed by experienced people!

Like Alexis and LennyBoy I work to help the seized dogs, Missy was an abused and neglected dog that the RSPCA brought back to health then wanted to pts her as 'Type'. The Solicitors Parry Welch Lacy talked the RSPCA to let them fight for her and Missy is now in a wonderful home living the good life. It is thanks to a lot of lovely people who raised money to get Missy home and the same thing is happening with Olive, people are donating to get her to a home where she will be loved and adored. These dogs don't go to anyone, a lot of care goes into finding the best homes for them.

If it was the police who say this dog is 'type', this needs challenging by someone who has experience of these dogs, Kendal Shepherd is very good, the police use a tape measure to asses the dog and these are usually not accurate which is why so many dogs are changed to 'not type'

LennyBoy
Hi, it is myself and a few colleagues who are dealing with the court case for Olive... similar situation to this gorgeous lad...she was stray and breed to be determined too. My colleague Alexis Aitchison has spoken with SDK today for an update re this lad. He was apparently handed in on 11/3/17 and subsequently typed on 13/3/17 and seized by the Met Police. I have called our Solicitor Parry Welch Lacey and asked them to check with their DLO contact at the Status Dog Unit what has happened with him.I will update wen I hear back from Parrys...can I also just add that whilst I agree it is extremely sad that our Olive has been held for a year in kennels,I would have to say that the year she has been in those kennels, she has probably experienced more care than she ever has before and it would have been far more sad if she had lost her life without a fight to try and change things for the better, if not for Olive at least for other typed strays...and lets not forget, Kendal Shepherd has actually found Olive not to be of type and this is why we need to continue to fight for dogs like her...who is there to challenge the Police with their erroneous decisions?? That has to change...roll on her judicial review! Gill xLast edited: 2017-03-21 10:13:29 by LennyBoy

Linda T. Nicky meant the first owner (I presume in the UK) has been fined. Not this particular dog.
alexis
I have spoken with a contact today and this dog was seized by met police on 13/03/17 and was found to be "type" no owner has came forward is still the info so sadly this dog may have faced his fate already. Our solicitors is going to email for us to see if we can get an update. Alexis
LindaT
NickyB ... reading your post would that mean that the authorities now know who the owner is? Hope that would mean this boy is going to be safe if his breed is established and if the owner doesn`t want to reclaim him then at least he can go to breed rescue?
lids1981
So this dog still alive do we know
Unknown
They are given a 21 day notice to chip the dog. It's not an instant fine. Suppose people think no one will check up.
NickyB
just read today first owner fined for not having up to date info on chip. he was given 2 weeks to do so. fined £742.
LindaT
Such a shame for what appears to be a nice dog ... sadly the cost of getting him out of kennels is going to mean whoever doesn`t care enough to get him microchipped isn`t going to stump up the cost of releasing him plus paying any fine for non-microchipp. I do so hope this boy isn`t going to be another one let down by humans :-(
NickyB
hope i am wrong but this dog has no chip no id tag is a staffie and has been in kennels 6 days doesnt look as tho he has someone who misses him

lids1981
Yes it can be but we have an amazing lawyer on board who does it reduced and alot of Fundraisers for this kind situation

Gilly after his 7 days and no owner coming forward what happens will he b PTS

We can help this dog and am very confident we can plz don't let this dog die
Mel
I'm no expert either, but he doesn't look very confrontational to me, looks a bit apologetic; surely, if he was aggressive he would show signs in his body language. Hope he gets a chance, poor boy. Xxx
Unknown
You can but it's very expensive and can take years. Olive has been a prisioner for nearly a year. Sad
lids1981
Yes Gilly but if no owner comes forward we can take to court and get a new registered keeper without owner plz don't let this dog dieLast edited: 2017-03-14 07:14:02 by lids1981
Juls
Bless him , has a lovely face , really hope owner is looking for him , looks like a cross staffie . Come on owner Don,t let him down really hope so good news soon x x
Hollieberry
I am no expert but to me this a sweet looking Staffie
Hollieberry
Its such a shame that this dogs fate is decided by one person who cannot decide what breed it is .I am beginning to think this is a way of creating kennel space .
Unknown
If owner comes forward they can fight to take through excemption process. If a typed dog has no owner it's not a good outcome usually. Take dear Olive.
lids1981
If owner not located what happens? I am involved heavily with BSL cases also and this dog if typed doesn't have to due... We can take thru courts to get exempted... Plz don't let this dog die and hope owner steps forward x TY
lids1981
Any updates for this dog has owner come forward
LindaT
Looks like this Staffie has been well-cared for and has a trusting and friendly face, I do hope his owner claims him soon and gets him microchipped. If no owner comes forward I`m sure any Staffie-lover will fall in love with him and offer him a home ... GOOD LUCK FELLA :-)
