Millie's Mum
Riding on the success of Buddy's return, let's turn up the heat on all of our South West dogs that are still missing. Murphy, we are looking for you, someone may have seen you and not realised that you are reported as "MISSING". Can all Dog lost helpers who visit this page, please email a copy of Murphy's poster, to all of their friends and family where ever they live especially in the Devon, Cornwall, Dorset and Somerset areas. As we all know, missing dogs are not always found in the area in which they were lost/stolen. Thank you. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you, Laurie, both for help and correction. It would be a long shot if this was Murphy, but as I'm sure you appreciate, we need to check, and I also appreciate you keeping your eyes peeled and putting up some posters. If you need to contact me, please send a pm! Thanks very much.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The park is actually called Simmons Park, the grounds of which are adjacent to Okehampton College - I am located about 7 miles from the park and I have telephoned my vets (NorthPark) and Okeford (Okehampton vets) to advise in case he is brought in.....if anyone needs me to go and collect him I can be contacted at laurie.busby@btinternet.com (happy to provide full personal details by 'phone once initial contact made)..I can get posters put up 2morrow..don't want to put a damper on the sighting BUT there are several very similar dogs in the area as someone local breeds border x lakeland (I have a rescue bitch myself that looks alike)Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Possible sighting of Murphy at 7.30am yesterday morning in Okehampton, Devon, EX20. This was at Cinimons Park, near the college and leisure centre. Is anyone in this area to poster and keep an eye open? Murphy's owner has just gone abroad, so unable to travel up there himself. This info was passed to me this morning, I'll try and speak to the lady who saw this dog, and notify police and dog warden.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Again, the good news is that Murphy is chipped, and if someone picked him up thinking he was homeless, and took him home with them, he could be scanned at any time. Murphy, we are looking for you xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Two new possible sightings last week - Argyll Down, near Falmouth, a large lake/reservoir, and near Cusgarne, about 6 miles away. These were several days apart, and owner is following up with more posters etc. The poss sighting at Lelant may have been a red herring. Come on, Murphy, give us some more sightings please, and make life a little easier for us!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just left message with owner for update. We postered a different area earlier in the week (Porth Kidney/Lelant) and got posters to PO sorting office St Ives, which covers this side of Penwith. Owner has continued with postering during the week and has given out hundreds of small flyers, and is extremely active in his search for Murphy.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Also have possible local sighting to follow up - don't want to say more yet, in case Murphy's thread is being watched.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi all. Havn't posted for a few days, but am still calling in on here for news. A great idea to join forces with Bishop and Gunner's owners to generate more publicity, and together, I'm sure you will come up with more ideas. I still keep wondering if Murphy could still be out there just fending for himself, or if he has followed someone walking their dog. I can't say this enough, but don't forget to check each week, and in person with all of your local dogs homes. Also ring to remind the wardens and local police that he is still missing. Deliver the new posters and more pictures to all of these places, and don't feel you are being a pain ! It is your own responsibility to check the homes out in person, just in case the chip has travelled and cannot be picked up. This does happen. Also dogs get logged down with the wrong descriptions and get re-homed before owners can find them. Seven days is all you have. He may not have been taken to the nearest police station or rescue centre either. Please check them all out. This goes for Gunner and Bishop also, although Gunner is more distinctive. Perhaps the three of you could take turns in doing the rounds, just to be on the safe side. Hopeing you get a break soon. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Still no news on Murphy. Am just back from walking my dogs at Praa Sands, no sign though thankfully the posters are pretty much in tact after yesterday's deluge of rain. Owner checked out poss dog that turned up in Holsworthy, Devon, but wasn't Murphy. Murphy, we're looking for you and your Dad wants you home where you belong.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you, Jan, how kind! I've sent you a pm. Not sure what to do now as no sightings, dear little Murphy has vanished in to thin air. It's very possible he's out there on the dunes - there's plenty of cover, and rabbits in abundance, fresh water, all the things he's need. Murphy, please show yourself!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Disappointment all round - the sighted dog was not Murphy, it belonged to a nearby farm who's dogs sometimes wander. Murphy's owner has spent the day clarifying the situation and is 100% sure. So we're back to square one.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This is brilliant news. Little monkey !! Dillondog I will email you Sherlock's scenting instructions for the owner, in case you do not have them. Please tell him to read them, over and over, and know what he has to do by heart. The method is tried and tested, and will normally work, but it may take some time and patience. Good luck. Come on Murphy - in the blue for you son !! Time for you to be home. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just had a call from Murphy's owner, 2 possible sightings this evening in Ashton, which is about a mile and a half up the road from Praa Sands going east, and slightly inland. Dog fitting Murphy's description seen by two different people, within space of an hour. One sighting he was in a field having a glorious time chasing rabbits!! Posters already up round here which has really helped. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Had another thought. Are there any schools in the area that could be postered outside, and around the gates. Plenty of Mums, Dads picking up their children, and may go to the beach with their own dogs. A good way of getting many eyes searching. Even hand out posters to people and ask them to keep a look out. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Think I'll do the vets first, then will look at campsites etc, but suppose the season is coming to an end now, so expect some will be closing soon. Could owners manage to visit taxi offices and hand out posters for their drivers, also bus depots would be good. If someone down on holiday has picked him up, they may just use this form of transport. Also petrol stations. If he has been picked up in a car, the 'carer' will need petrol, and may just see a poster. Newsagents, post offices, and pet shops could also be done by them if the beach is well covered. Come on Murphy, give us all a clue, and lets get you back home. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Any help from a distance would be welcome.....I've got a full on week of work. Bishop is about 90 miles from here in South Devon, and Gunner is about 30 miles away on the North Cornish Coast (well his family are). Praa Sands is saturated with posters, and the owner is going there most mornings at dawn, and again at dusk. He will be away up country tues/weds. Any suggestions very welcome. Posters need to be displayed as soon as possible on notice boards, lamp posts, entrances to parks, dog bins and on cars. Take posters to vets, pet shops, postmen (for sorting offices), milkmen, dustmen, street cleaners, taxi drivers, schools, pubs, youth clubs, newsagents, post offices, takeaways, dog training clubs, supermarkets and car parks. Hand out reduced-down posters or cards to people - especially dog walkers - and deliver to houses and businesses. Police stations, Dog Wardens, the RSPCA and all rescue centres need checking frequently and preferably visited in person by owner or someone who knows Murphy well. Stay safe Murphy, until you are home x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Murphy ran off into the dunes above the beach last sunday afternoon, after rabbits. Murphy's dad has already postered in the area and informed police, DWs, rescues, RSPCA etc, and also given out small flyers. Need to get more posters up. Murphy and his dad have been together for the last year, before that Murphy was found wandering the streets and taken in to local NAWT rescue, so chances are he's well able to live rough and fend for himself. Great editorial already, with photo, in Cornishman and West Briton.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
