- Oh wow! Glad to be home after being at the incredible rescue of Bonnie by all the rescue services. To see the look on Andrew's face when he eventually had his girl back was so rewarding! A lovely call from him saying that Bonnie is fast asleep on the sofa and that all his family as so relieved and happy that she's safe.
Bonnie is one very, very lucky dog as she was found about 25ft deep down a crevasse within the cliff face and has come out of that hole a little stiff but otherwise fine. (Reunited photos on the page. Please refresh/reload it to see them)
Thanks to the Eastbourne & Birling Gap Coastguard team who were assisted by Newhaven Coastguards & East Sussex Fire & Rescue there's been a happy ending for Bonnie, Andrew and his children as well as other family members. A very special mention must be given to his amazing cousin (a 5star posterer!) and mother who heard Bonnie earlier in the day. Well done to them!
What else can I say other than many, many thanks to all who postered, searched and supported the family in the search. You are all so brilliant!
Oh, and I should mention that we had the film crew with us so hopefully they have some good footage .. thanks for giving permission for that to happen Andrew.
As for the rescue services, they are absolutely incredible. They go above and beyond when they pull all the stops out to rescue a dog.
THANK YOU so very much to each and everyone of you, who I know came from all over East Sussex to participate in the rescue operation.
One last REQUEST for anyone who helped and that's to ask for your help to take down all the posters please. (The authorities are always very tolerant of our postering for lost dogs so it's important to remove them as promised) Thank you.

- How on earth did she get loose by those cliffs? I really, really hope this poor dog gets out of this unscathed and I'm sure she'll be ever grateful to the wonderful RNLI if they can help her. Awful seeing these continual cliff edge disasters with dogs. I really hope this dog can be brought to safety before tonight. Everything crossed.

- My family in Eastbourne are walking at Butts brow this morning and looking out for Bonnie.
- 2016-10-24 19:46 Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
- I met with Andrews family & Mary this afternoon & we were shown where Bonnie was lost from. Although she was seen going up towards the Lookout area she may have gone off to the left where there's a steep but not sheer drop towards the sea. I spoke to a very kind Chaplain who told me that if Bonnie had gone over the cliff it is likely she would have been found by now. I also understand that Andrew searched the beach a couple of hours after she was lost & there was no sign of her. If Bonnie had tumbled/rolled down that bank then she could have landed & been stunned but ok & then gone off along the beach so please keep a look out for her there too.
I totally agree with LynS that no-one should try looking over the cliff edge as we would not like any accidents.
Andrew has already spoken to the Coastguards & RNLI Eastbourne who may be able to check along the beach & cliff line whilst on traiing excercises.
Andrew is not sure if the tag is still on Bonnie's collar & if it is it may have a different number to his on it (one for a family member who's abroad at the moment) However as Bonnie is microchipped & the Dog Wardens are aware then that should not be a problem. The microchip database is also aware & has the correct contact details.
If anyone is able to help search please would you check anywhere along the route Andrew mentioned in his post below (he was on a sponsored run for Mary's Meals in Malawi that day & did 10mls) So a long scent trail & area to cover as well as Beachy Head.
Thanks so much to all who are helping & supporting the family. They are doing a great job postering & informing people, well done to them all.
Let's all hope that we get a sighting or two come in soon so we have an idea of where Bonnie is. Come on Bonnie, please show yourself girl. Last edited: 2016-10-24 19:48:10 by Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex - 2016-10-24 13:45 Skywalker99

- PLEASE do NOT look over the cliff edge, its unstable! Dover Coastguard will task the local Coastguard cliff rescue team to have a look for you
- 2016-10-24 11:50 Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
- Thanks for the update Andrew and for other comments posted on the page.
Whilst we can't eliminate that Bonnie has gone over the cliff it's important to ask coastguards/RNLI to check the cliff with binoculars if poss. (Or if a friendly drone operator is around, maybe they would ..from a distance of course)
Looking at the routes you have done Andrew it is more than possible that Bonnie will pick up a scent from your runs/walks. I've had a chat with yr parents and have explained that it's wise to leave gate open for Bonnie in case she does make her own way back. (This is often in the early hours) It's also possible the Dog Wardens would pick her up if she is seen in town so please keep in touch with them (Eastbourne & animalwardens.co.uk as different for each area of E'brne)
I am trying to get over to Eastbourne to meet with Mary and yr parents this afternoon and to put some posters up. If anyone can help with posters please it would be greatly appreciated as owners has broken.
We need the posters so that we can get some sightings come in. There can never be enough of them ..everywhere along Andrew's route and on Beachy Head pretty please. (Or even just one in your car window) Thanks. - 2016-10-24 11:11 pat88

- So sorry Bonnie is missing. Have you asked the Lifeboat if they will check from the water looking up at the cliff? She may be on a ledge you cant see from land - thats happened to dogs before. Hope she is found safely soon x
- 2016-10-24 10:28 Andrew Mansergh
- Hi Linda, I have. I went down there twice yesterday, and looked over from the edge this morning. Thank you for asking. I appreciate it. A
- 2016-10-24 10:00 Linda
- I hate to ask this, but have you tried the under cliff?
- 2016-10-24 06:33 Andrew Mansergh
- On Friday I took Bonnie up Carlisle Drive, onto the hill above Paradise Drive, south along the ridge towards Beachy Head and then down the hill to Bede's, before running east along the sea front to the RNLI museum and heading back up Carlisle Drive to Grassington Road.
On Saturday we walked a 10 mile loop start from Butts Brow to Jevington to Friston to Birling Gap, up the valley to Warren Hill and then north along the ridge to Butts Brow.
If she picked up a familiar scent she might have gone to Butts Brow, or down towards the sea front?

- Thanks for the updates Andrew.
Mary, you must have read my mind as was about to text you to ask you to do that! Postering would be great please. Maybe one to Holcombe farm in case Bonnie heads that way. If they are resurfacing up there then a couple to the workmen and/or their boss if possible please.
I've shared to the usual Eastbourne area Fbk pages and can see lots of views of Bonnie's page already which is good.
I think it would be wise to let the Coastguard service and RNLI Eastbourne know that Bonnie is lost in the area please.
I've got everything crossed that Bonnie is found by the morning. Last edited: 2016-10-23 23:15:30 by Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex - 2016-10-23 22:47 Andrew Mansergh

- Thanks for the update Andrew I do hope Bonnie is found very soon. I have put a link to the poster on Streetlife.
- 2016-10-23 22:25 Andrew Mansergh
- No sightings yet sadly.
My parents live on Grassington Road in Eastbourne and we visit every 2 - 3 months. When we are here I always take Bonnie onto the Downs, but it is not her regular walking route. I took her up there on Friday morning, but she would have nowhere obvious to return to.
This morning I parked by the main road towards the Beachy Head pub, just where the resurfacing work is taking place. I have just left her bed in her crate up there.
I last saw Bonnie heading south west, away from the Bomber Command Memorial and heading in the direction of the top of Beachy Head. I have left some of her bedding on the bench on the way towards the memorial. I'll put posters by both in the morning.
Thank you to all those who are looking, and particularly to those who have called with advice. - 2016-10-23 22:00 Mary
- Clarkey. The road from Eastbourne to Beachy Head is closed at the moment and a diversion in place. There was a poster Dukes Drive/Foyle Way and I spoke to people walking their dogs at the start of South Downs Way to make them aware. Can start postering in the morning. Is this a place Bonnie is walked regularly and do you know where she might try to get back to?

- So sorry to see that Bonnie is missing. I have sent our Doglost advice out by email but have had reply saying automated response. Please would you let me know you have recieved the advice Andrew Mansergh? Or if someone else registered this page please let me know who to forward it too.
Most important is to get as many posters out as possible please so that you can get sightings coming in.
Also try leaving scent items like your dogs bedding/unwashed clothing (socks/tshirts work well) at the place where she was lost so that Bonnie has a familiar scent to come back to and settle down with. This is most likely to happen when all has gone quiet or in the early hours.
Please keep us updated on the page to let us know how you are getting on with your search. Hopefully Bonnie will be home very soon.
