How can anyone knowingly ignore their dog and know what will happen if they don't stand up and acknowledge responsibility for their dog? Breaks heart, just cast aside like an old shoe. There are so many heartbreaking stories about Staffys, I wish something could be done. You deserved so much more little boy RIP xxx
Hollieberry
Shame on the owner who knowingly had his dog slaughtered.RIP lad humans did not deserve you.

Run free boy x

I am going to move this dog to Rainbow Bridge for the following reasons: owner was written to and no response was received. SDK waited a further 5 days from writing to owner as required by legislation as chip present. This poor dog was assessed as a Pitbull Schedule 1 dog it would be euthanised because owner did not go to court to prove otherwise! RIP handsome boy, so very badly let down by an owner and Govt legislation. X
ClaireC
Thanks Tracey, just emailed you.

Apologies for not getting back to you guys earlier, warden had already contacted us regarding this dog, unfortunitley no matching missing reports :(
ClaireC
All down to experience of dog wardens as a possibility!
Hollieberry
On the found page were 2 dogs of similar colouring I thought at first it was the same dog one was listed as SBT by DW and this poor dog breed to be determined by another DW words fail me .
ClaireC
This dog is chipped and no response from owner from phone calls made. A letter has been sent and awaiting a response, so I have been told! They wait a further 5 days to see if owner responds. Yes it maybe that this dog has been callously dumped and owner simply (for him/her) don't care!
NickyB
its 9 days now and the owner hasnt claimed this dog, the chip details may be out of date, or just the owner has abandoned him.......... OF 100,000 DOGS AT COUNCIL KENNELS LAST YEAR ONLY A HALF WERE RECLAIMED ------- so sadly it is not always a question of what breed they are - these 50,000 unclaimed dogs come in all shapes and sizes and agesLast edited: 2016-09-30 17:49:12 by AlisonH
ClaireC
No doubt the hard pressed Councils wont pay and SDK wont on account of cost! I have had no response from BDH as yet.Last edited: 2016-09-30 13:00:04 by ClaireC

I agree with Jayelle. As long as this stupid law exists DNA testing MUST be used to determine the breed of dogs.It is very unscientific to do it on appearance .
ClaireC
Just foned about Rocky and he's watching Eastenders! At least he's home!
BorderCol
Could he possibly be Rocky 104880? Described as "tan" but no photo and lost 4 days before this one was found.
I don't really understand why a DNA test can't be used? They seem to be readily available, I would be happy to pay for it.

Just as this stupid law came in a friend of mine adopted a chocolate pbt a lovely tempered dog. after she had had for 7 months the Rspca seized him back and put him to sleep due to this law.How many more innocent dogs are going to die just because of what they look like. Yes DNA testing can be done but its expensive & takes time.
Unknown
Yes, you and NickyB In some cases it`s not the dog`s fault. Just irresponsible owners Like this so called owner:-(
ClaireC
Do you mean me Janie?
Unknown
NickyB I totally agree with every single word you have said in your posts. They were saying earlier this year that Pit Bulls are no more likely to attack than some other breeds. And are usually quite placid. In fact a few years ago (Before the stupid Law) i knew someone who owned a Pit Bull. He was so laid back. I thought you were allowed to keep a Pit Bull if you applied for a special license? I think they do carry out DNA tests. Looks like a Staffie to me.

I have asked Battersea Dog's Home if they have had a report in of someone who has lost their dog. Jayelle I dont think Council nor SDK go to houses! Really dont know if there is any test done to ascertain breed. Sometimes, I am told the colour can be used to determine breed!!!! I really dont understand how that is arrived at!Last edited: 2016-09-29 17:25:27 by ClaireC
BorderCol
Can anyone visit the chip address? Could be any number of reasons why owner not responding; perhaps they are away?
BorderCol
Can he have a DNA test to prove/ disprove his breeding?
Unknown
Very sad. Poor lad you didn't deserve this.
Mallory'smum
So in essence the so called owner has murdered this poor dog. It breaks your heart-he never asked to be born this breed and has done absolutely nothing wrong. Hate people some times. Sleep well boy. :(
ClaireC
UPDATE. This dog was sent for assessment by the Status Dog Unit, part of Police where it has been assessed as a Pit Bull! The owner is not responding to phone calls on the chip and they have been written to. Sadly, no response has been received as at today. They will wait for a further 5 days and as a Pit Bull is a banned breed, and therefore unable to be rehomed. it will be PTS.

All dogs collected by SDK,if no chip is present. stay on their screens for 8 days then automatically."drop" off! So therefore we never will really know whether they have been rehomed or PTS! So so sad. Last edited: 2016-09-29 15:57:37 by ClaireC
NickyB
yes claire and i will keep saying it in the hopes more and more and more dog owners will be aware
ClaireC
NickyB as i have said before "sadly, that would be in an ideal world"!
NickyB
this drama would not be happening in the dog had an id tag on collar and correct details on the microchip records = i do wish dog owners would understand how important it is.i do realise tho that half of the one hundred dogs found every day are never claimed
Unknown
Hopefully they will write to the address on the chip.
ClaireC
SGodman why have you changed your name? It will simply add to more confusion especially as there is a dogs life to be considered! Maybe Walley is your real name!
Update. Ive just spoken to SDK to see if dog has been reunitec via the chip. To date there has been no response to the phone calls made that are registered on the chip.Last edited: 2016-09-24 15:07:36 by ClaireC

So sdk do determine breed. "If they are not sure " they call the police!!
NickyB
this whole scenario is so horribly and cruelly ridiculous - all the idiots in the government who rule our lives and the lives of our dogs need a good talking to with ordinary people with commonsense - WHEN WILL THE SO CALLED EXPERTS EVER ADMIT THEY ARE WRONG? I am not convinced mrs may and her new lot will make any difference. when those experts? the police return a dog they had seized having decided it wasnt dangerous - days later it killed a 52 yr man saving his yorkies life - so much for their expertise.............

I do not think this dog looks like a pitbull. Maybe SDK could provide a face on photo for us to look at. I would hate to think this poor dog would be condemned as breed type just because of one persons idea of what a pitbull looks like.
Unknown
The council do not determine the breed sdk do. The warden who picks up the dog determines this not the council.
Unknown
Please do SGodman I would be interested too. I have a lot of experience of my own with exempt dogs. Has anyone at SDK seen a pitbull terrier. My e mail is gillianlouisepacker@gmail.com I welcome your comments.
ClaireC
I note that this dog is chipped and truly hope that it is up to date and if so owner notified. If this is the case, then I am sure the owner would be able to provide documentary evidence from his/her vet as to breed!Last edited: 2016-09-23 20:06:10 by ClaireC

Can we start a petition or something against SDK-they are messing with dogs lives here and they don't seem to care.
BigGSDPatlucky
I agree looks like a Staffie to me.
Staffies like Border Collies come in all different shapes and sizes.
ClaireC
What the hell is wrong with some of these people who are employed by SDK! Breed determined which books on dogs are they looking at!!!
