I had this reply to a petition re dog theft if anyone is interested...

Government responded:
There are stiff penalties in place for those convicted of theft of a dog including the possibility of imprisonment for up to 7 years.

In terms of the offence of theft, the existing maximum penalty is seven years’ imprisonment. With regard to sentencing, it is for the courts to decide on an appropriate penalty based on the individual circumstances of each case. To help courts impose appropriate sentences or penalties, they are provided with guidance in the form of the Sentencing Guidelines issued by the Sentencing Council and there are specific guidelines in relation to theft offences which are available on the Sentencing Council’s website. The guidelines give examples of offences, aggravating and mitigating factors, as well as the range of suggested sentences and penalties for the various types of offences. The guidelines were recently amended to include such factors as emotional distress to the victim which can often be considerable in the case of the theft of a family pet. In addition to the Theft Act 1968, the law now requires all owners to microchip their dogs, which is in the interests of both dogs and owners. We estimate that 91% of dogs are microchipped (up from 58% in 2013). Microchipping can help the safe return of a pet dog.

The Chihuahua Mr Salvatore has been found. Safe and handed in to a vet. He was bone dry and given the wet day might indicate that he was being kept somewhere then released.

Police have entered a property and no dogs- it seems as no proof of dogs being there they cannot do any more till get evidence. Dogs have been moved on but no ideas yet where to.
Skywalker it was being shared as police were entering property so unlikely to give those people a tip off!

THANKS TO EAGLE EYES VAN HAS BEEN LOCATED. i HAVE BEEN ON PHONE TO MET POLICE UPDATING AND THEY SENT A CONTROL CAR OUT. i THINK NOW AT LOCATION WITH DOGWALKER AND HELPER- Helper has been watching to make sure does not move and witnessed them taking same sort of dogs out of van to a flat- police awaiting back up.

IT WAS NOT THE DOG WALKERS VAN THAT WAS STOLEN, she had loaded up the van with dogs, she lives on Kemble Road SE23, went back to lock her house, black van sped up, took all the dogs by the scruff of their necks and put the dogs into their own van.

Two of the dogs are pugs, one female and one male. Both middle aged. Pippa & Erol (I have photo and have sent it to Jayne at the admin email) they are both chipped and neutered. The owners of these pugs is my brother.
