Any follow-up to the poss sighting on Warren Hill? If she got that far might have been picked up by someone and got loose again. There are 40 ++ racehorse trainers in Newmarket, will try to email poster to all of them in next dayo or two to ask if they will put up in eg tack room. Racing people all crazy about JRTs - some lad or lass might have picked her up and kept her. Henry Cecil trains on Warren Hill & has JRTs iirc, will start there! For anyone wanting to do same in their area go here and put county in search box Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi - just back from postering and enquiring: for Saffy and Evie Histon, Smithy Fen (very nice and helpful) Wilburton, Stretham, lazy Otter, Chittering and Park & Rides East and North. Last house in Chittering worth going again when they're in, their land goes right across to stretham over the fields and the locals say they are doggy people, saw a gsd and hienz but could hear others inside. Left a poster with a message to call if any news. It was a fab day driving round the fens just would have been nice to come back with a dog or two!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Unfortunately the sighting in Epsom was not Sapphire. Although I have not personally checked out this dog, the description I was given by someone who did see the dog close up was of a much smaller dog and certain features did not match. A great shame but she's out there somewhere and hopefully will be back home soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

So lovely to speak to Hilary today, you are giving Saphire's mum so much support, you are all doing a really great job. Well done Hilary for persuading your vet to check all dogs to surgery for permanent id, tattoo and microchip (aka Dolly's Directive). You did this through reasoning and logic which I think is a much better approach than getting aggressive and demanding. Brilliant work. I have my firend over from Corfu Rescue and we both walked all round Burwell, along the back of the Anchor and where she had been spotted. No hardship a lovely day. We followed the river round and used field glasses to check the distance - but no sign sadly. We did find a little 'nest' in the dry grass just to the right on the footpath at the back of the pub.We walked down the lane to the traveller site and were met by their children (weilding lumps of wood and bats - they may have been playing ??)we left the little cards with them asked for their help and said tell parents there is a reward! So fingers crossed, if she's with them we should hear soon. I think probably not though because if its really her who's been seen they wouldn't have let her be loose, would they? We spoke to lots of dog owners and spread the word but nothing helpful I'm afraid. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just got in from mega postering session. Did Histon, Cottenham, Smithy Fen, Wicken, Soham, Upware, Swaffhams, Devils Dyke and back to Burwell left various posters and cards for Saffy's Mum. Spoke to farmers and dog walkers. Now they're harvesting we might be able to see her if she's in the fields. One dog-owner told me that Severals has visitors again! so anyone in Newmarket area might be able to look into this??Also followed up a found JR on Nat pet register but they said they would only reply if it was her!So I guess that means it wasn't. Met Sapphire's family yesterday. All missing him very much. Garden is secure (except for Houdini's) But unlikely stolen from garden. Garden backs on to fields for miles! Postered all surrounding villages, village halls etc. During enquiries gamekeepers wife told me of a 'stray' sharpei which keeps appearing in fields near main road at Exning Estate? If anyone knows about that one. Hoping for sighting or telephone call from someone re reward!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi, have just been speaking to Sapphire's owner, she can't get online at present but wants to thank everyone for help and support. Story so far.Sapphire was on a secure long chain with their other dog as per usual, they heard the younger JR barking and when they went out it was alone and collar was attached to chain. Cambs, Suffolk, Norfolk & Essex Police alerted with photos and posters. Also wardens. Burwell village community policeman on the case, knows the dog well. Owners family walking other dog and handing out flyers to all dogwalkers in evenings. All surrounding villages and towns garages, tesco, pubs, chipshops covered. Have suggested they put our food in the field at the back of house tonight in case she is 'being ferral'! also they have volunteers who are going to do thorough walk of fields at back of house looking for holes, traps etc. I will meet up with them tomorrow am. HOWEVER, what I didn't know is that 11 DOGS have gone from that village in a very short space of time, coincidentally with some visiting folk! who have now moved on. One of those dogs has been returned for ?100 we don't know the details I will find that out tomorrow as they have not contacted doglost. I thought about putting up a general sign saying 'if you have lost your dog blah! contact doglost. What does anyone think about that idea? Maybe we could get a gallery of them all like Muns did with the Norfolk dogs. Any ideas welcome - Fly Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi I did posters large and (4 to A4 page) plus 75 business card size between Quy and in Burwell. Covered High Street houses, pubs and spring close where all the dog walkers seem to go, did the nursery school and village hall. I talked to quite a few dog walkers and gave them the business card size details. Lots of dog walker out 7-8pm would be a good time to hang around church and give out more info. Spoke to owner Emma who was going to enquire at nearby 'site' for their help. Will do some more later.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yasa
As soon as Admin receives a photograph, the poster will be emailed out to helpers. Posters need to be displayed as soon as possible on notice boards, lamp posts, entrances to parks, dog bins and on cars. Take posters to vets, pet shops, postmen (for sorting offices), milkmen, dustmen, street cleaners, taxi drivers, schools, pubs, youth clubs, newsagents, post offices, takeaways, dog training clubs, supermarkets and car parks. Hand out reduced-down posters or cards to people - especially dog walkers - and deliver to houses and businesses. Police stations, Dog Wardens, the RSPCA and all rescue centres need checking frequently and preferably visited in person by owner or someone who knows Sapphire well. Stay safe Sapphire, until we find you x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
