Amazing news for Bertie & his family.
Welcome home Bertie. X
Baydogs
Great to see this lovely boy back safely at home.
Well done to Kent police and the dog warden who left a cosy bed to scan immediately.
Like others, would also like to think that the remaining dogs on site could be scanned as a result of this.

Great news :) Welcome home Bertie.xx

So good to read Bertie is home where he belongs.

Hats of to Kent police, I wonder if they would be happy to show other police forces that dogtheft is a police matter!!!!

Keep Bertie safe, sending him a hug xxxx
Skywalker99
Nickyjim, thanks. Berties' theft was very opportunistic....I wonder whether the police followed up with the travellers who were in Esher at the time of Rafiki's disappearance.
NickyB
travellers wonder why the local community dont welcome them - one reason is the disgusting mess they leave, and the cost to the local community to clean up after them, and that more and more lost dogs are found with them.
DogLostNicky - Area Co-ordinator London, Home Counties & Police Liaison
I have emailed CJ to ask if it possible for her to pursue with Kent Police
Skywalker99
I know it is difficult, but finding Bertie is an excuse to go back and check more....
Campion3
So pleased that Bertie is home. I tend to agree with Skywalker99. Understand the difficulties in targeting and checking traveller sites but most if not all councils have at least one officer with responsibility for liaising with travellers. These sites should not become no-go areas just in case we upset people.
Skywalker99
Thinking...it would be good if Kent police looked at all dogs on that site...if there was one stolen dog there could well be more.
Skywalker99
From Bertie's FB page: Lots of people have asked how we found Bertie. Kent police had cause to look into one of the vehicles that had been at Ham when Bertie was taken. We had provided the registration number previously, and so it was on the police records. When the officers went to the vehicle, they noticed a dog tied up outside that looked out of place and so went back into the police computer system to see if there was anything of interest linked to the vehicle. They worked out from there that the dog they had seen was likely to be Bertie so got in touch with us and got the dog warden out of bed to go and scan for a microchip immediately. They went back to the site, confirmed it was Bertie and then brought him back to us straight away. No action is likely to be taken against the owner of the vehicle, and the police didn't interact with anybody at the site because nobody answered the door and they decided to concentrate on getting Bertie, which we are content with.

Fantastic news. Stay safe now Bertie xxx

Absolutely fantastic news!!! I am absolutely thrilled for you all. The scum who steal animals should be severely punished for the heartache and distress they cause to the animals and their families. Well done Kent Police and stay safe now gorgeous Bertie xx

BERTIE HAS BEEN FOUND!!! Update from his group - 'Bertie has been found safe and sound! Thanks to some officers from Kent police, he was recovered last night. He is a bit dirty but absolutely fine. Thank you all very much for the help and support'
Stacey Godman
SDK Environmental have recentlt picked up a cocker spaniel from Kensington and Chelsea. Mircochipped to the breeder - so may not be the same dog, but worth the look?
Hope he comes home soon :(
Julie Dogs
Are there no depths to which some people will sink? Whoever has Bertie whether bought in good faith is breaking the law by not trying register his microchip. When they do the truth will out. If anyone has bought a dog that could be Bertie since 13th July they must do the right thing and let him come home.

Also WHERE are these vehicles which left Ham Common at thr same time as Bertie disappeared:

GN 02 NVD Ford Ranger Supercab Diesel
GP 56 GVX Silver Toyota Dyna
BF 65 SDO White Ford Transit 350 Pick up
They towed caravans.
WillC
This week we had another bogus call from somebody that said they had Bertie. More of an effort was made to make the story believable this time, but it was obviously a scam. A reward is still available for Bertie's safe return, but we won't waste our time and money on hoaxers.
Baydogs
Thanks for letting me know nickyjm. There is another owner that I alerted to this found dog and I'll update there too. X
DogLostNicky - Area Co-ordinator London, Home Counties & Police Liaison
Thanks Baydogs I sent by personal message so it won't show there but I have just found out that the dog we are referring to (not Bertie) has been reunited x
Baydogs
Thanks nickyjm. I looked on Bertie's FB page earlier but couldn't see this one there x

Runnersighting - I have passed your possible sighting on to Bertie's owners. Thank you
Julie Dogs
A month today since Bertie was stolen. Please everyone keep sharing his poster widely for his family. If he has been sold on new owners may be unaware he was stolen but they should have his microchip checked as it is now the law to ensure details are up to date and Bertie's will show he was stolen. Willing there to be good news soon xxLast edited: 2016-08-13 00:25:39 by Julie Dogs
Runnersighting
Hello, it may not be Bertie but I saw a dog very similiar on its own in the tow path stretch between the Hawker YMCA centre and the road going into Kingston. The dog was not with anyone and had a red collar (perhaps some kind of pattern on it.) I was running to Richmond and saw your posters - travellers have been on that stretch as well so perhaps check / place posters nearby? I couldn't spot him again when I went back but may be worth looking?
DogLostNicky - Area Co-ordinator London, Home Counties & Police Liaison
From Bertie's FB group - ***potential sighting***

A potential sighting of a similar looking dog to Bertie seen in Staines, by Staines Bridge heading towards the Sainsburys. We have been told the dog was not on a proper lead and didn't seem to close to the owner. If you see a similar looking dog in the area or any helpful information regarding this please contact us on 07973511264 or 07540999061.

Thanks X

Crossposted from Bertie's FB page-
"The Woodmansterne sighting was a false alarm. That dog has been reunited with its owners."
Wonderful news for that dog's owner but obviously very disappointing for you WillC. Do hope you have some positive news soon.
Julie Dogs
If anyone has bought an adult male cocker spaniel on or since 13th July please take him to a vet immediately to have his microchip checked. It is now the law to ensure microchip information is up to date. Bertie may have been sold on to an unsuspecting new owner who has no idea he was stolen. Large reward for his safe return.
WillC
We have spoken to Sandra, (who spotted the dog) and he does seem to match Bertie's description. If you see him in the Banstead/Epsom/Woodmansterne area, please don't approach as it seems he is just running off. Food might be a better option. His details are being shared in the area and we will be putting posters up and searching tomorrow. If anyone is going to be in the area let us know and we can join forces! Many thanks as always.
CalamityJane
There has been a possible sighting of this dog yesterday morning ( Wed 27 July) at around 11am near The Woodman pub in Woodmansterne by one of Epsom Canine Rescue's volunteers. She has contacted the owner and is currently waiting a call back. The dog ran past the pub and into the fields to the rear of the car park. He still has his collar on and is running very scared.
WillC
POSSIBLE SIGHTING: A member of the public saw a black cocker spaniel with a red collar walking around unaccompanied on Lawrence Road, Ham yesterday. The dog wouldn't come near her when approached. We went to check it out straight away but there was no sign of this dog. It may be Bertie, we are not quite sure. The posters are working - we were contacted straight away when he was spotted so please keep sharing and keep eyes out. Please share in any local groups as well!

The thunderclap puts a public post on the social media pages of everyone who has subscribed to it at the same time so there is suddenly a big increase in social media posts about Bertie.
I had to take my cat to the vet last night (new Malden vet) they had two of Bertie's posters up.
Julie Dogs
Can you explain the thunderclap and how it works? Also where exactly were the three travellers vehicles seen next when they left Ham? The word needs to get out that anyone who has bought an adult male black cocker spaniel since 13th July needs to take him to vet and have his chipped checked. Also any responsible new owner would be looking to get his microchip updated which is law.

Baydogs
Thanks Julie. Has anyone set up a Facebook Page for Bertie?
WillC, so sorry that you had to contend with sicko hoax callers at this difficult time.
Julie Dogs
Just walked Ham Lands with Bertie's owner, dog walker and other helpers. It is clear that Bertie WAS STOLEN and is not in the bushes, rabbit hole, badger set or river. Therefore, please will people really get behind the campaign to return him safely to his owner and share his poster widely. There is a reward for his safe return.

The owners of the following vehicles may be able to help with information. If anyone sees these vehicles please get in touch.

GN 02 NVD White Range Rover
GP 56 GVX Silver Toyota Dyna
BF 65 SDO White Ford Van

Making hoax calls in an attempt to collect the reward money is at best sick and at worst a criminal offence.Last edited: 2016-07-19 15:10:12 by Julie Dogs
WillC
We have had another hoax call today. Needless to say, we are not handing any money to anybody who does not have Bertie or any genuine information about his whereabouts. If anybody does actually have Bertie, we are still offering a reward. No questions will be asked and we are not interested in trying to involve the police if he is returned safely.

Our friends have been to the Ashford site and spoken to a few people to spread the word. No sign of Bertie but they seemed helpful so fingers crossed something might come of it.

Thanks for the useful info. Maybe Bertie's owner and someone from Dog Lost can go and politely ask for their help in finding Bertie and telling them there is a large reward? I am on the way to Wales so cant help x

I saw a comment from a Ken Wells two hours ago (i.e. 2100 today) which said "The travellers are in Ashford Middlesex Now" posted on Association of Professional Dog Walkers Facebook page, who have posted Bertie's picture. I have asked him if they are still there and whether he knows if they are the same travellers who were in Ham. Are you in touch with Police (Surrey?) who attended and who moved the travellers on? Will keep tweeting and wiling gorgeous Bertie to be found safely soon. x

In addition to keeping an eye on Gumtree and pre-loved, also keep an eye on a site called www.dragondriving.co.uk as this is mainly used by travellers to sell their dogs and horses. Bertie is continuing to be shared on Facebook and Twitter and one of my small team of currently at Ham Lands and is looking out for him.

So sorry to just discover Bertie is missing / stolen. Have tweeted to Richmond / Ham / Ham Ferry / Ham & Petersham SOS / Twickenham folk and local vets. Keep an eye on Gumtree / Preloved websites and make Bertie #toohottohandle. Why are travellers still allowed in this area???
I think the Police email is southrichmond@met.pnn.police.uk or if that doesn't work contact the Police at Twickenham Police Station and they will give you details.
