I have just had the full story from Rufus' mum. From the time he went missing, lots of people plus a terrier who knows Rufus were out scouring the area and checking all the holes - nothing. They spent hours searching in driving rain. Then Rufus somehow made his way out of wherever he had been stuck and got to a farm where he lay down on a tarpaulin exhausted. When the resident dogs were let out in the morning, they found him and alerted their people who took him straight to the vet. He was emaciated and dehydrated and had severe flystrike all down his back. The vet gave him 1% chance of survival but he is a fighter and has pulled through. He is eating and drinking well and getting lots of tlc, but it will take a lengthy course of vet treatment to get his back better as the tissue is extensively affected by the flystrike. He must be an incredibly tough, brave and determined dog.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Rufus has been found. He was very poorly and given little chance of recovery - but he has done it and will be home from the vet tomorrow.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Rufus went missing from Hudnalls Wood, near St Briavels Common. He was with another dog. They both went for a run off lead, other dog came back alone. Owner tells me she heard from the police that 3 other dogs went missing in the Forest of Dean yesterday, so can anyone in the area who spots any dog on the run there please let me know and notify the dog warden.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

As soon as Admin receives a photograph, the poster will be emailed out to helpers. Posters need to be displayed as soon as possible on notice boards, lamp posts, entrances to parks, dog bins and on cars. Take posters to vets, pet shops, postmen (for sorting offices), milkmen, dustmen, street cleaners, taxi drivers, schools, pubs, youth clubs, newsagents, post offices, takeaways, dog training clubs, supermarkets and car parks. Hand out reduced-down posters or cards to people - especially dog walkers - and deliver to houses and businesses. Police stations, Dog Wardens, the RSPCA and all rescue centres need checking frequently and preferably visited in person by owner or someone who knows Rufus well. Good Luck Rufus x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
